Periyanayaki Amman Temple – Devikapuram

Periyanayaki Amman Temple is situated in Devikapuram village in Arani Vattam in Tiruvannamalai district. The name of the mother who resides in this temple is known from the inscriptions as Periyanayaki. This temple Built in the 14th century by the Nayaka kings of the Vijayanagara Empire, the large Nayaki Amman temple is 475 feet long from east to west, 250 feet wide from north to south, and 30 feet high with beautifully carved walls.At the front of this wall is the Rajagopuram which is about 150 feet high and has seven tiers and nine kalasas. Opposite this gopuram is a four-legged lofty mandapam. On the north side of this dome there is a shrine with pictorial works. This mandapam is facing both East and South directions.

The Periyanayagi temple is located at the base of the hill called Kanakagiri. At the hilltop, there is a temple for lord shiva, with the name Kanakagiriswarar.The periyanayagi amman is also called sri brahadambhal or sri Bhrihanayaki amman.

The Periyanayagi Amman temple at the foothill is open from Morning 6.00 AM Till 12.00 PM  and Evening from 5.00 PM to 8.00 PM

Hill Top Kanakagirishwarar temple:

About 300 steps to reach the top, this is an ancient Siva temple. Saint Arunagirinathar calls this place as Kanagagiri and has sung 3 hymns. The Lord Shiva located on Devikapuram small hill is very powerful and it is true that if you buy and drink the abishekam water that is held during the hot water abhishekam on Monday afternoon, many diseases will be cured
